節分 Setsubun

The 3rd of February is the day of Setsubun (節分). We celebrate the beginning of Spring by throwing roasted soybeans within and around house in the evening of Setsubun day (Feb.3).

Temples and shrines are no exceptions. Celebrities are invited to temples and shrines and take part in the bean-throwing event.

Go to a popular temple like Sensoji temple and Zoujouji temple in the afternoon on Feb.3, you will see celebrities throwing beans to the congregation.
